I have recently identified that I have a thing for Valentine's Day.
I'm really not sure why, but Valentine's Day makes me feel all happy inside.
You'd think it's because I adore my wonderful husband so much and he makes me so happy and I just love that there's a whole holiday dedicated to thinking warm fuzzy things about the person who makes me feel warm & fuzzy. But it's not.
Sorry, hon--all those things are completely true, but that's not why I am drawn to all things Valentine-y. It's far more childish than that, really.
Here are a few of my favorite things about Valentine's Day, past & present:
1. Pink & red & white: embarrassing, I know. I don't wear pink. I don't dress my girls in pink that often. I don't have a pink cell phone or purse or KitchenAid mixer. But when a bag of Hershey miniatures comes wrapped in pink and red and white...well, I like it.
2. Giving and getting those little Valentines as a kid--sometimes with a lifesaver sucker taped to the envelope--and making sure not to give the boys in the class anything that said "Love" or "Be Mine" on it.
3. Class parties when we would make little mailboxes or decorate envelopes to hold all of those little Valentine cards.
4. A Valentine from my parents on the breakfast table growing up.
5. Leaving Valentines for my girls on the breakfast table now.
6. Shiny heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, which I am convinced actually taste better than chocolate that comes in a rectangular box.
7. Lacy paper heart-shaped doilies. I love those, although I'm not really too sure what to do with them other than glue them to a piece of regular paper so you can actually do something with them.
8. Conversation hearts. Who can resist those deeply sentimental messages like TRUST ME, BE GOOD, and FOR YOU? For the record, I like the white ones best because they taste like mint. I do not like the green ones or the extra big ones.
9. Last, but perhaps most of all--buttery delicious, made from scratch, slathered in homemade buttercream frosting with pink & white & red sprinkles, heart shaped sugar cookies. Yum!
So for the next few weeks, my blog will be a pinky reflection of my love for Valentine's Day.
And the firework-ish design sprinkled around on the background is a little personal celebration of something called "PGN Approval," which we got this week! HIP HIP HOORAY!
